Faye and Her Support Group

 

YELLOW: Happy, Open BLUE: Sad, Vulnerable

 

Faye is a divorced woman. She filed for divorce once she accepted that she was gay and could no longer deny that part of who she is. She has been divorced over five years now. She and her partner, Julie, both work but enjoy participating local events around town. Faye wants to expand their network of friends and help women be comfortable with who they are regardless of their sexual orientation.

Support Group. Faye and Julie started attending support a year ago with the goal of connecting with other women in the gay community and feeling more comfortable being openly gay .

Scenario. During a support group session the support group leader asked Faye to share her story about deciding to be openly gay.

RESPONSE A: I don’t share my story in public because I am not yet ready to let the world know I am gay.

RESPONSE C: Wow, that is a tough question for me. I have never shared my story in public. Some people can be so judgmental.
